ESAI works on various programs and projects. Previously these are done either in partnership with other organizations or alone. Projects ESAI takes up are those that we believe go with our mission and will have a positive impact on others. We're working hard on bringing new programs and projects that will benefit our members. Some of our programs and projects are mentioned below.
ESAI Annual SummitAs part of its mission to create an environment for networking, ESAI holds annual summits in different cities. These summits last about 3-4 days and include many ways to educate our members while creating a perfect setting for networking. Every year, local Ethiopian Student Associations (ESAs) compete for a chance to host the summit and showcase their group. There have been nine summits up to now and the 10th Annual Summit will be hosted at Toronto, Canada in March 2010.
ESAI Student ScholarshipIn line with helping our members advance academically, ESAI offers scholarships for its members. This program is relatively new but has a potential to be a big part of ESAI. Previously, the education division worked on giving out a total of $1000 in scholarships through a literature competition. The participation in the competition and positive feedback was overwhelming. It was the sign ESAI needed to pursue this even further.
Angel Tree ProjectTo benefit students in Ethiopia, ESAI worked in partnership with Selamta Family Project to raise funds for orphans in Addis Abeba. "The Selamta Family Project in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is a community model for creating life-long families and repairing a social fabric that has been ripped apart by the AIDS pandemic, poverty and dispair. With minimal funding, and an entirely volunteer organization, we are reuniting lost brothers and sisters, embracing disenfranchised women, creating vibrant, successful new families, and offering support that reaches deep into the surrounding community." - Selamta.org
ESAI Book DriveESAI, in partnership with the University of Cincinnati Alliance of Ethiopian Students, the Redefine Life Foundation, and organizations from the DC area, has collected and shipped nearly three thousand books to Ethiopia. On this project, ESAI worked in cooperation with the Ethiopian Community of Toronto, Canada and Friends of Ethiopia to get the books shipped. The books are currently on the way to Ethiopia and will be given to the Ministry of Education or distributed to select universities all over Ethiopia. We would like to thank Friends of Ethiopia for allowing us to ship the books free of charge. |
