Support Haiti

Dear Members and Friends,

I'm sure you have seen the devestation that is caused by the earthquake in Haiti. It is heartbreaking to see what is going on on TV. The scale of devestation in that country is massive. Every one of our Haitian brothers and sisters need all the help and support we can give them. I am sure that we, as Ethiopians and human beings, would never wish this on anyone. As Haitians face their greatest hour of darkness, let us be the beacon of  hope and  help them recover to normalcy. Please search your heart and find the will to help them in any way you can.

Below is a list of organizations you could use to donate to the relief effort in Haiti.

Yele Haiti

World Vision

Oxfam America

Red Cross Canada

Medicin Sans Frontier - Canada

Welcome to ESAI

ESAI 3.0 is now up and running. This is the latest version of the site and has a totaly new look and feel to it as you can see. The new site is not about looks only, it also has a lot of new features that will enable ESAI execs and members to share different resources with one another. With our new membership based site, we will be using the site to provide members with all the benefits. Become a member now and help us build our membership and benefits package. The more members ESAI recruits, the more ESAI will be able to provide for its members.
Browse around the new website and let us know if there is anything broken or in need of being replaced.

Thank you!
Exec Team

Happy New Year

Dear ESAI Members and Friends,

The ESAI executive team would like to wish you and your family a far better year 2010. As the new arrives, we would like to reflect on all our achievements within this past year and our future plans for ESAI. As you know, we had planned on introducing a few major changes to the organization to make it stronger. There were a few tasks we wanted to accomplish at the beginning of our term. Below are the tasks and short details of where we are with respect to each task.

- The first task was to get ESAI incorporated and recognized as an official organization. This was one of the first things that we completed. ESAI is now incorporated in Ohio.

- The second general task was to do a few projects that could help our members or fellow Ethiopians. We have done the Angel Tree project which raised money to the Selamta Project. We have also collected about three thousand books with the collaboration of a few organizations/ESAs and individuals and sent them on the way to Ethiopia. Once they arrive, they will be distributed to different Universities.

- The third  task was to make ESAI tax-exempt. We have done all our paper work and are now waiting for finalization before submitting it to the IRS. Even though this has taken longer time than we expected, it is in the final stage before a verdict is given by the IRS.

ESAI Programs and Projects

ESAI works on various programs and projects. Previously these are done either in partnership with other organizations or alone. Projects ESAI takes up are those that we believe  go with our mission and will have a positive impact on others. We're working hard on bringing new programs and projects that will benefit our members. Some of our programs and projects are mentioned below.

ESAI Annual Summit

As part of its mission to create an environment for networking, ESAI holds annual summits in different cities. These summits last about 3-4 days and include many ways to educate our members while creating a perfect setting for networking. Every year, local Ethiopian Student Associations (ESAs)  compete for a chance to host the summit and showcase their group. There have been nine summits up to now and the 10th Annual Summit will be hosted at Toronto, Canada in March 2010.
